Medical Centre Townsville
At Mooney Street Medical we offer our patients a wide range of services including:
General and Family Medical Care
Our doctors are fully trained to offer health services across all ages, genders, diseases and conditions. As we have been well established in the community for many years, some of our patients span across multiple generations in the one family. We strive to understand your unique health care needs and support you and your family to achieve optimum health.
Gender Specific Health Issues
We understand there are many health related conditions that are gender specific. Our doctors keep up to date with treatment interventions and recommended screening for all gender related health matters and will be able to help you with any of your specific concerns. This may include, but is not limited to, cervical screening and breast checks, prostate screening, and sexual health.
We recognise that sometimes life may be stressful and that your circumstances may not always be as you would hope. We are here to listen. Doctors at Mooney Street Medical are always happy to make longer appointments for you when you need to talk. You may find that it is enough for you to speak with your doctor or you may decide together to be referred for further counselling. The Australian Government have put together a website called Head to Health with a number of links to online mental health resources which some people find helpful as well. Click here
Adult and Childhood Immunisations
Our doctors and nurses are regularly updated on the recommended immunisations for both children and adults. Immunisation requirements can be specific to children, occupations or travel destinations. We offer a reminder system for all childhood immunisations and some adult immunisations which require multiple visits. Childhood immunisation visits are bulk billed.
Skin Checks and Minor Skin Surgery
According to the Cancer Council Queensland, our state has the highest rate of skin cancer in the world and one in two Queenslanders will develop skin cancer in their lifetime. Our doctors are trained in identifying and recommending treatment for skin cancer. Dr Leong has a special interest in diagnosing and treating skin cancers and he is VERY particular with his suturing techniques to minimise scarring when lesions need to be removed. Skin cancers can appear anywhere on your body, not just on sun-exposed areas so we recommend that you have an annual skin check. Skin cancer is easy to prevent if you stay SunSmart
Annual Comprehensive Health Assessments
It is recommended that you have an annual comprehensive medical assessment if you are 75 years and over. The Australian Government recognises this which means these health assessments can be covered under Medicare. We offer bulk billed visits for this service. You will need to allow a longer time for this visit as you will see one of our practice nurses for assessment before you see the doctor. This enables us to take the time to make sure we understand your unique situation and provide the right support for you to be as healthy as you can be.
Longer appointments are available if you require a special medical for insurance purposes, driving licences, or work requirements. Please advise reception when you make an appointment if you have an special forms or requirements in relation to medicals. On most occasions you will be assessed by one of our practice nurses before seeing the doctor.
Medicare Australia recognises the need for a co-ordinated healthcare approach for people with chronic and complex medical conditions. GPS can assist with this through the use of GP Management Plans and Team Care Arrangements.
The team at Mooney Street Medical are committed to helping you achieve optimum health outcomes. If you have a long term medical condition, for example, asthma, arthritis, diabetes, heart disease, COPD, or cancer, then you may benefit from being involved in our Wellness Clinic.
This is a bulk billed service which involves establishing a written set of goals, and scheduling regular reviews to help you understand and manage you chronic condition. This is known as a GP Management Plan. Your doctor and our practice nurses may also be involved in co-ordinating visits to other health professionals according to your individual needs. This is know as a Team Care Arrangement.
Please speak to your doctor or one of our practice nurses if you would like to know more about this service.
Health and Lifestyle Management
Our Health and Lifestyle Management Program includes reminder systems, patient education and links to community resources to assist you in monitoring and maximising your own health goals. Mooney Street Medical has a strong focus on disease prevention and health promotion. We believe that you are able to maximise your health outcomes by staying informed and being in control of your choices.
There are many health screening programs which are recommended and supported by the Australian Government and with your permission, we are able to offer reminder services for these. For example, the National Bowel Screening Program provides FREE Faecal Occult Blood Test Kits to people over the age of 50 years. We also offer reminders for childhood immunisations, cervical screening and breast screening.
Due to COVID -19, QML have now ceased their pathology collection service at Mooney Street Medical. Patients will be advised of the nearest collection service when needed. Samples can still be dropped at Mooney Street Medical for collection
